Tacolicious at Flora Grubb Gardens This Saturday!

a resort showing palm trees and a seatWhen Joe and I decided to get married, our first thought was, Let’s have the wedding at the biggest slice of heaven in San Francisco (well, to our minds): Flora Grubb Gardens.

When Flora Grubb (yes, this is a real person) opened her beautiful nursery maybe a couple years back, it made me see the Bayview through new eyes. Suddenly, I wanted to move to this neglected neighborhood, where the sun shines and the parking is easy. But really, I think I just wanted to move directly into Flora Grubb Gardens and live amongst the succulents and towering plants, listen to the crunchy gravel beneath my foot, inhale that deliciously wet, planty smell. I wanted to sleep in a big bed, made with white, cotton sheets, set right in the middle of the high-ceilinged indoor/outdoor structure. Ritual Coffee Roasters also has a stand there and I imagined I could wake up to a gibraltar every morning.

Long story short, we’re not having our wedding at Flora Grubb (we’re having it in our own, very small Bernal Heights backyard, which has it’s own charms, and a great view). But I still adore this place. So, we’re living out our FG dreams in a different (slightly less romantic) way.

This Saturday, from 11:30 to 3:30 pm, Tacolicious is setting up shop at Flora Grubb to hawk tacos and grilled corn. In honor of Flora Grubb’s focus on sustainable, water-saving plants, we’ll be selling a “drought resistant” taco made up of nopales and beans (though, if you’re thirsty, we’ll gladly sell you a watermelon agua fresca). We’ll also be selling tongue tacos, shot-and-a-beer chicken tacos, short ribs braised in guajillo chili tacos and more. It’s going to be my first time working the booth so be kind to a food editor who generally spends her day at a desk.
